Use the room your document is allowed
Choose the 1MB target when the destination allows a file of that size. It is the largest target available in this tool. Compared with 100KB or 200KB, it gives a scan or a short group of pages more space for text and images, without asking for a tiny file simply because a smaller option exists.
The compressor tries higher-resolution settings first and can stop when a smaller result meets the selected cap. The extra budget can mean less aggressive compression, but it does not guarantee that all detail survives. If the original already fits the cap and has the required features, keeping it unchanged may be the better choice.
One megabyte for the whole PDF
The limit applies to the combined file. Five pages share the same 1,048,576-byte budget; each page does not get its own megabyte. Photos, shaded backgrounds and dense charts can use more of that space than a plain text scan. Page count alone cannot predict the final size.
Short scans and document packets
A few simple pages are reasonable files to try at this target. Check whether the recipient wants one combined PDF or separate documents before preparing the source. Keeping them separate can be useful only when the upload form permits it.
Long reports and image-heavy files
Twenty detailed pages may still be too much for 1MB. The tool accepts up to 20 pages and 50 MB per input file, but those input limits do not promise a 1MB result. Detailed images can lose clarity before the whole document fits.
Measured examples at the 1MB target
These are two self-made test PDFs, with invented text and image-based pages. They contain no personal documents. Both were deliberately saved as large scans so we could compare the same inputs at different limits.

These results show what happened to these samples, not a typical saving or a promise for your file. Browser versions and document content can change the output. A reached target only confirms size; review text, images and required details separately.
Keep document features in mind
The 1MB setting changes the size budget, not the compression method. This tool still turns pages into images. A digital document with selectable text, working links, fillable fields or annotations can lose those features even when its pages look similar.
Avoid this method for a resume that needs automated text parsing, a searchable reference document or a form that must remain editable. Use a method that preserves those features instead. This page is best suited to a copy whose visible pages are what the recipient needs, and whose size must stay below a stated cap.
After downloading, inspect every page rather than only its cover. Read the smallest required text and compare photographs, stamps and signatures with the original. Confirm that the page order and orientation are correct. A Target reached status checks size; it does not certify readability or acceptance by another website.
Questions about the 1MB limit
Does 1MB mean 1000KB or 1024KB here?
Here it means 1024KB, with each KB counted as 1024 bytes: 1,048,576 bytes in total. Some destinations use decimal units. Compare the actual output with their stated limit.
What if Target not reached appears at 1MB?
The smallest reduced result is still over the cap after all available settings have been tried. Review the source for unnecessary pages or oversized scans. Edit or rescan it with another tool if appropriate, keeping everything the recipient requires.
Can I select 2MB instead?
No. This tool currently offers 100KB, 200KB, 500KB and 1MB. If the destination permits 2MB and your original fits, you may not need to compress it to 1MB.
Why is a PDF under 1MB still rejected?
The destination may use a 1,000,000-byte limit or check the format, page count, dimensions or required document features. Read its error message and instructions; a size check alone does not cover those requirements.
